BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay police responded to a fatal motorcycle vs. vehicle crash on Wednesday about 3:35 p.m.

According to Palm Bay Police Lt. Mike Bandish, Shelly Barnes, 51, of Melbourne was traveling southbound on U.S. 1 just south of University Boulevard, when a vehicle pulled onto U.S. 1 from Spence Drive, violating the motorcycle’s right of way.

“The motorcyclist was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead,” said Lt. Bandish in a release.

According to Lt. Bandish, the driver of the other vehicle was Avis V. Besley, 68, of Fairplay Avenue NW in Palm Bay. Besley was found at fault and ticketed for violation of right of way.
