Julie Spurlock battling cancer for second time

No one can deny that the months leading up to the 2016 presidential election were brutal.  There was no middle ground; there was no indecision.  You were either for one candidate, or for the other, PERIOD!

Some were beginning to wonder if there would ever be anything we could all agree on.  Well, the answer is yes.  There is something we can ALL agree on.

And, it’s taken a young girl from Merritt Island, Fla., to tell us what that is.  That girl, Julie Spurlock, and that issue….cancer.

Julie is a 16- year-old that is battling cancer for the second time.

A group of her friends from the support group, “Rock for Julie” have been reaching out to the community, far and wide, to gather “get well/keep fighting” video clips for Julie.

The latest count shows 79 clips have come in.  Among that group, and, within days apart, the two United States senators that represent the state of Florida, democratic Senator Bill Nelson and republican Senator Marco Rubio both sent Julie well wishes.

Both were very touching, heartfelt messages directed towards a young girl that could care less about Democrats and Republicans.  You see, Julie has more important things on her mind than politics.

One of the more interesting aspects of these “get well” clips, is the fact that they ALL bring the same message.  They are a message of hope and encouragement.

Clips have been received from college athletes that compete against each other, professional sports teams that compete against each other, and politicians that compete against each other.  None of that matters, though.  It’s ALL about Julie.

Besides the latest clips from Senator Nelson and Senator Rubio, there are clips from three Olympic gold medalists (one that has beaten cancer), a number of musicians – including one that has sold over 100 million albums, a professional football player that has beaten cancer, two professional basketball coaches – one from the NBA and one from the WNBA, a retired war hero, the next Vice President of the United States, a TV actor, a sitting Governor, a U.S. Congressman, a student from England, greetings from China, Germany, Vietnam and the Island of Vanuata, multiple college athletic teams and college athletes, and many, many more.

All of those that have sent “well wishes” have found common ground.  It makes you wonder why we all can’t find more common ground to come together as ONE.

It’s going to take that unity to put an end to pediatric cancer.

There is so much that we as a people can accomplish when we are on the same page.  It’s taken a 16-year-old girl from Merritt Island to put a lot of us on the same page.

Julie will beat cancer.  And when she does, the sky is the limit.

Her reach at such a young age has grown far and wide.  Julie is destined to do amazing things in her life.  And, her life is just beginning.
