BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Wuesthoff Health System is welcoming Alphonse M. Pecoraro, Jr., MD, FACS, to its staff at Wuesthoff Medical Center-Rockledge. He is a general surgeon whose practice includes treating cancers of the colon, stomach, breast and pancreas.

Dr. Pecoraro, who has been in practice more than 20 years, received his undergraduate education in biochemistry at St. Peter’s University in Jersey City, NJ.

His medical degree is from the New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. A strong student during his years of medical training, Dr. Pecoraro was named valedictorian at both schools.

His general surgery residency training was at New York University/Bellevue Hospital in New York City. Dr. Pecoraro is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons.

“Having a longtime physician of Dr. Pecoraro’s stature, combined with Wuesthoff’s state-of-the-art surgical technology, certainly benefits the patients who entrust Wuesthoff with their care,” said Andy Romine, chief operating officer at Wuesthoff Medical Center—Rockledge.

“His impressive clinical background speaks for itself, and his ongoing commitment to patient care makes him an excellent fit with the strong, patient-centered general surgery program already present at Wuesthoff.”

Before he was set on being a physician, Dr. Pecoraro’s initial interest was in electrical engineering – a discipline he says has some crossover with medicine.

“As a kid, I liked to learn how things work,” he said. “That’s one of the things that attracted me to medicine. I’ve always enjoyed science and math, and how that applies to the human body and physiology.”

He added that the personal interaction he enjoys as a physician was another draw to that vocation.

Dr. Pecoraro has worked in both private practice and on hospital staffs since moving to Brevard County, Florida, from his native New Jersey 15 years ago.

“I’m looking forward to this new phase of my career at Wuesthoff—Rockledge,” he said. “It’s always so nice to be able to offer services to the community in which I live.”

Wuesthoff Health System includes Wuesthoff Medical Center-Rockledge and Wuesthoff Medical Center-Melbourne, both full acute care hospitals and Wuesthoff Health Services, a network of affiliates providing hospice, home care, home medical equipment, and assisted living services.
