Moore Memorial Park & Museum Will Host Multiple Events During Black History Month

Second Annual Heritage Freedom 5k Run Feb. 25

ABOVE VIDEO: Harry T. Moore paved the way for the 60s civil rights movement by championing equal pay for black teachers, organizing the black vote and publicly condemning racist attitudes and actions of local, state and national officials.

BREVARD COUNTY • MIMS, FLORIDA – The Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Memorial Park & Museum, located at 2180 Freedom Avenue in Mims, will hold multiple events throughout the month of February to celebrate Black History Month.

All events will occur at the Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Cultural Center unless otherwise noted.

Opening Ceremonies for Black History Month will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1. at Gibson Center, located on 835 Sycamore Street in Titusville.

On Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. there will be an open discussion about what it was like to grow up as an African American during the Jim Crowe era.

The Moore’s Musical Mix will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12. There will be  African American music and dance performances.

Be sure to join the community on Saturday, Feb 25  from 8 a.m. until 12 noon for the second annual Heritage Freedom 5k Run/Walk & Essay Contest.

After the run/walk there will be an award ceremony and a pancake breakfast.

Registration up until Feb 13 is $25 for adults and Kids (18 & under) are $20.

From Feb. 14 through race day the price increases $5 per ticket. (Adults $30, Kids (18 & under) $25)

Closing ceremonies for Black History Month will be from 6-8 p.m. on  Tuesday, Feb. 28.
