Motorist who travel Wickham Road at the Interstate 95 interchange are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes beginning at 8 am.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Motorist who travel Wickham Road at the Interstate 95 interchange are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes beginning at 8 am.

Thursday, Jan. 19, due to anticipated lane closures that are taking place to expedite the opening of six lanes to traffic beginning on Friday, Jan. 20.

Brevard County Government authorized the lane closures requested by Viera Co. The closures will reduce traffic lanes to one lane in both directions, with intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday between Murrell Road and the Viera Roundabout.

In the meantime, Viera Co. will work through the night Wednesday night, all day Thursday and Thursday night to complete installation of asphalt and temporary striping.

Plans are to open all six lanes of traffic, plus turn lanes, effective at rush hour Friday morning, according to Viera Co.

Opening six lanes to traffic will help greatly reduce congestion in the area, which has seen orange construction barrels and other related equipment and ongoing road work since 2014.

The major road closings in the area are projected to end on Friday.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area as much as possible and to consider alternate routes to get to and from work on Thursday. Otherwise, be prepared for delays.
