Fire Marshall Rules Cause of Blaze ‘Undertermined,’ Investigation By Property Insurance Company Ongoing

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Take a walk through Brevard County’s former iconic Cocoa Beach oceanfront estate known as the “Pumpkin Center” in Cocoa Beach that was built by the late media legend Al Neuharth and burned to the ground last month.

The Cocoa Beach Fire Department announced last week the cause of the March 15 residential building fire at the “Pumpkin Center” was ruled “undetermined.”

The investigation was conducted by multiple contributors including the Cocoa Beach Fire Marshal, the Florida Division of State Fire Marshal, Cocoa Beach Police Department, and Orlando Fire Department Arson and Bomb Unit.

This disposition is dependent on multiple factors which failed to identify a clear and concise origin and cause of the fire and allows the investigation to be reopened at any time should additional information or evidence become available to the Fire Marshal’s Office.

The property used to be owned by the late media legend Allen H. Neuharth who founded USA TODAY and FLORIDA TODAY, and was one of the newspaper industry’s most influential personalities.
