BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – Brevard County-based Great Southeast Flooring America has launched a new scholarship for Satellite High School students who are interested in attending the University of Florida.

The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually in May and is designed to help alleviate some of the expenses for a student planning to attend UF.

“Flooring America is a family-owned business, and for five decades and counting we’ve had a steady stream of family members graduate from Satellite High School,” said Nelson Green, owner of Great Southeast Flooring America, a Satellite High class of 1964 and UF alumnus.

“With five family members currently working at Flooring America who graduated from Satellite, we wanted to say ‘thank you’ for the tremendous impact the school has had on the success of our business.”

To be eligible, a student must have a teacher’s recommendation and write a 500-word essay on how he or she intends to use the scholarship money.

Students who also are members of the school’s Rotary-sponsored Interact Club will receive extra consideration. The recipient should display high academic achievement, sportsmanship, citizenship, leadership and integrity.

Mark Elliott, principal of Satellite High School, expressed his appreciation of the Great Southeast Flooring America scholarship. “Satellite High School has a strong tradition of community support,” Elliott said.
