VIDEO: Juvenile Suspected of Attempted Murder Arrested After Pursuit Throughout Brevard

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville police arrested a 14-year-old male juvenile after a far-ranging hot pursuit throughout Brevard on Monday night by law enforcement, including the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit  and STAR Aviation helicopter. 

Police charged the juvenile suspect with Attempted Murder with a Firearm, Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling, Violation of Home Detention and Tampering with an Electronic Monitor Device.

According to the Titusville police, the original incident happened January 4 when officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Roosevelt Street.

An investigation led to the arrest of the 14-year-old suspect, who is a resident of Titusville, who was then charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Possession of Marijuana and Resisting an Officer without Violence.

According to police, Gary Anthony Thomas Jr., 19, of Titusville, was arrested and charged with Fleeing and Eluding at a High Speed, Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Damage and Driving with a Suspended License. Thomas is being held at the Brevard County Jail with a $22,000 bond. (BCSO images)

On January 10, the suspect was released by the Department of Juvenile Justice on Home Detention with electronic monitoring by way of an ankle monitor, and on  January 16t the suspect cut off his ankle monitor.

On January 18, Titusville police officers responded to multiple shots fired into an occupied dwelling in the area of Burning Tree Drive. According to police, the preliminary investigation revealed that the juvenile suspect was the suspected shooter in the crime.

“Investigators observed (the suspect) and another male getting into a reported stolen Nissan Sentra at the River Breeze Apartments, located on South Washington Avenue at approximately 10 p.m. on January 23,” said Amy Matthews, Titusville Police Department Public Affairs Coordinator/Public Information Officer in a release.

“The vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed and officers pursued. The pursuit continued out of city limits onto southbound I 95. Law enforcement deployed stop sticks and disabled the vehicle on southbound I 95 at the Wickham Road exit.

“A short time later, the two suspects fled the vehicle into the nearby woods and were quickly taken into custody with the assistance of BCSO K9 Unit and STAR.”

A loaded 9 mm handgun was recovered from the center console of the stolen vehicle, according to police.

The juvenile suspect is currently being held at the Juvenile Detention Center awaiting an appearance before a judge.
