BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The 25th Anniversary Tim Wakefield Celebrity Golf Classic, Auction and Sponsor Reception will be held January 27-28 in Melbourne, Florida.

For 25 years, former professional baseball pitcher, Tim Wakefield, has hosted celebrities, corporate and community leaders, and generous donors in order to raise funds for Space Coast Early Intervention Center (SCEIC), a non-profit therapeutic preschool and kindergarten for children with and without special needs.

Born and raised in Melbourne, Florida, Wakefield is best known for his 17-year tenure with the Boston Red Sox.

Also well known for his philanthropy, in 2010 Wakefield won the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award, given annually to the Major League Baseball player who “best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual’s contribution to his team.”

Prior to his professional success, Wakefield promised that if he ever made it big, he would hold a charity golf tournament for SCEIC each year. He has fulfilled that promise for the past 25 years.

SCEIC is the only school in Brevard County that offers an inclusion program.

This means that all of SCEIC’s classrooms have a 50/50 ratio of students with disabilities to typically developing or gifted children. Students participating in this model learn at their own individual pace, benefiting from interaction with a diverse peer group, and the attention of therapists, behaviorists, early interventionists, and highly qualified preschool teachers.

SCEIC seeks to expand its well-established preschool program to serve students in grades K-8, and in 2016 offered a kindergarten class for the first time.

The event features a Dinner and Auction on Friday, January 27 at Melbourne Hilton Rialto Place, followed by the Golf Tournament on Saturday, January 28, at Suntree Country Club.

Participation in this event includes:

  • An exclusive dinner, prepared by celebrity “Iron Chef” Lee Hillson
  • Silent auction with one-of-a-kind items
  • Golf at the private Suntree Country Club
  • Sponsor reception, by invitation only, with buffet prepared by Meg O’Malley’s
  • Entertainment by a cadre of musical talent, including Wakefield
  • For top sponsors, a private dinner with Wakefield
