BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – After a sluggish start to the season Friday, Florida Tech earned its first wins of the 2017 campaign on day two of the Marriott First Pitch Classic Saturday., defeating Nova Southeastern and Palm Beach Atlantic by the scores of 5-0 and 7-3, respectively.

Five different Panthers, Kaitlin Buchholz, Audrey Gangloff, Julianna Goldberg, Hailey Leonard and Krista Patterson, turned in runs in the morning victory over NSU.

Goldberg led the surge, going 1-for-2 with a homerun and a run scored. Buchholz stole two bases in the contest, while Vanessa Rubio went 1-for-3 with a walk.

Rachel Pence returned to her winning ways on the mound against the Sharks with a dominant three-hit complete game shutout.

Pence posted another solid performance in the second game of the day against PBA, improving her season mark to 2-1.

After surrendering two runs in the first inning, Pence settled in and pitched the way Panther fans are accustomed to seeing with another complete game, allowing three runs on eight hits, four strikeouts, and a walk.

Makayla Palmer led the scoring for the Crimson and Gray with a pair of RBIs.

Three Panthers turned in multi-hit performances. Leonard went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Patterson hit 2-of-3 with an RBI, and Buchholz finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a steal.
