Global Diversity Will Be Celebrated At Florida Tech’s International Fest

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – From Africa to Korea, Saudi Arabia to Taiwan, the world’s cultures, foods and traditions will be celebrated at Florida Institute of Technology’s 11th Annual International Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 on the university’s Panther Plaza.

The festival is open to the public. It will be held in the Clemente Center if it rains.

Through performances, food and hands-on experiences, attendees will experience the rich cultural variety that enlivens both the university – home to students from more than 100 countries – and the broader Space Coast community.

There will be a variety of performances starting at noon, with Florida Tech’s all-faculty rock band TWITCHY kicking things off.

Other groups scheduled to perform include the FIT Street Dance Club, Shik Shak Belly Dance Club, Voice of Indonesia in Florida, Putri Mandalika Indonesian Dance Club, L’Ahavat Tzion, Melbourne Capoeira, St. Joseph Catholic School Spanish Club and Florida Tech student associations from Latin American, Sri Lanka, the Caribbean, Africa, Saudi Arabia and Oman.

Many of those associations, as well as other Florida Tech groups including the Chinese, Brazil, Iraqi, Korean, Libyan and Taiwanese student associations, the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts, the International Student Service Organization and WFIT, and community groups including Hearts Out to Haiti and the Space Coast Vikings/Sons of Norway, will offer cultural displays.

The festival is open to the public. It will be held in the Clemente Center if it rains.

Food vendors will be ARC’s Ice Cream Truck, Hazel’s Caribbean Restaurant, Indique Indian restaurant, Joumana’s Mediterranean Cuisine, La Estancia De Luisa Colombian restaurant, Old School Pizza and Tacos Mexicano Aca Chela.

The festival will also feature several children’s activities, including bounce houses and carnival games.

And a popular feature will return: Passport to the World, which encourages children of all ages to visit different cultural displays to learn something unique about the many countries and cultures represented at Florida Tech and the surrounding community.
