BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Space Coast Gator Club will award $15,000 in scholarships to both current and incoming University of Florida students from Brevard County.
“This is the fourth year in a row we have opened our scholarship awards to current graduate and undergraduate students at UF, as well, “ said David Melnyk, Space Coast Gator Club President.
The club will also contribute to the Florida Opportunity Scholars Program.
The program supports low income undergraduate students who are first in their families to attend college.
The clubs mission is to support the University of Florida’s mission of teaching, research and service as determined by the University of Florida Board of Trustees by fostering and enhancing the relationship between the University of Florida and its alumni, students, and friends.
The Space Coast Gator Club is dedicated to giving back to the Brevard County community and the University to maximize the educational opportunities of the current and future students.
The Space Coast Gator Club has awarded over $125,000 in scholarships to Brevard County high school graduates since the 1990’s.
One of the Club’s major directives is fundraising for these scholarships.
Based upon the amount of money raised throughout the year, a variable number of scholarships (usually in the amount of $1,000) are awarded each year.

ABOVE VIDEO: On a recent edition of Space Coast Daily Sports Talk, Space Coast Gator Club member Rich Rosa appeared to discuss the club, as well as talk about the hockey games that took place on Jan. 28 and Feb 4.
The Space Coast Gator Club also does a very good job of bringing “The Swamp” and love for the Gators to Brevard County.
The club hosts many great sporting events throughout the year.
In the past year the club welcomed Gator’s football head coach Jim McElwain to the Melbourne Auditorium, sponsored three UF hockey games, three Gator Club baseball games, as well as a Gator soccer and lacrosse contest, all on the Space Coast.
Last October the club set sail on the high seas for their sixth annual Gator Nation Cruise vacation on the newly renovated “Majesty of the Seas” for three nights to Nassau & Coco Cay, Bahamas.
All of the events aren’t sports related. Last July the Space Coast Gator Club welcomed University of Florida distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutics, Hartmut Derendorf to Brevard to deliver a lecture.
The club recently announced that this year’s guest speaker from the University of Florida athletic program will be none other than the school’s new Athletic Director, Scott Stricklin.
While the date has not yet been set, Stricklin’s appearance is confirmed.
Hired by former Gators AD Jeremy Foley last September, Stricklin will talk candidly about the “State of the Gator Nation Athletics,” and what the future holds for UF football, basketball and Gator athletics.
He will discuss new buildings, facilities, and also and what it take to stay competitive in the SEC. Stay tuned to Space Coast Daily for updates on tickets to this event and date confirmation.
