ABOVE VIDEO:  Titusville Police responded to a fiery single vehicle crash and pulled the victim away from the scene as the vehicle exploded and became completely engulfed in flames, according to Amy Matthews of the Titusville Police Department.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville Police responded to a fiery single vehicle crash and pulled the victim away from the scene as the vehicle exploded and became completely engulfed in flames, according to Amy Matthews of the Titusville Police Department.

At around 9 p.m. Thursday night, officers responded to the report of a vehicle crash near the 6700 block of Riveredge Dr.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that 44-year-old Phillip Thistle, of New Jersey, was traveling northbound on Washington Ave., then veered onto Riveredge Drive traveling at a high rate of speed.

The driver, Thistle, crashed the rental Toyota RAV 4 into a concrete barrier at the north end of Riveredge Dr. causing the vehicle to roll several times.

Thistle was the only person in the car and pulled himself out of the wreckage, then collapsed just a few feet from the burning vehicle.

When officers arrived, they quickly located Thistle and pulled him to safety as the vehicle exploded.

Thistle was taken to a local hospital via helicopter with serious injuries, according to authorities.

Titusville Police are continuing to investigate the crash, more updates will be forthcoming.
