BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Kareem Brewton paused and thought about it a moment.

He could not believe that he was the first player in almost 20 years to score 1,000 career points at Eastern Florida State College.

“I know there were better players than me, like Meechy (Demetrius McReynolds, who played for the Titans 2013-15), I saw him play and he was a scorer. I thought for sure he had 1,000 so to hear that, it is really great,” said Brewton who has 1,023 career points.

The sophomore forward from Claxton, Ga. has 1,023 career points through 58 games with the Titans becoming the first player under head coach Jeremy Shulman to post 1,000-career points.

“It definitely means something but at the same time I am a competitor so I am just trying to do whatever I have to do to help this team win games,” Brewton said.

Brewton has done that, leading the Titans to a 23-4 record heading into Wednesday night’s Southern Conference game at Indian River State College.

“We win, 1,000 is a good thing. That means I was part of why we won, it’s a team effort. It is my teammates that got me to 1,000,” Brewton said.

It was also his hard work. Brewton can be found in the gym most days shooting and admits he likes to get at least 1,000 shots per week.
“Kareem is a special player, and one of the best to every play at this college.”

“He is a tireless worker who loves the game and always puts in extra hours,” Shulman said.

“Kareem is also a player of great character, and is a true joy to coach every day. I am very blessed to have had the opportunity to coach Kareem and he will always be family.”

“He is a tireless worker who loves the game and always puts in extra hours,” EFSC head coach Jeremy Shulman said.

The sophomore forward is one of the top scorers in the NJCAA Division I men’s basketball this season, averaging 21.2 points per game this season.

His 552 points this season is second in the nation and he is 10th in minutes played. He is also in the top 15 in the conference in both assists and steals.

“I kind of felt like I would have a good season over the summer, then coach and I talked and he wanted me to step up and I have been working hard to do that,” Brewton said.
