Melbourne Police are investigating a shooting incident that left a man injured with multiple gunshots Friday night near Delavana Apartments on 1420 Avocado Ave. in Melbourne, according to Lt. Shawn Eising of the Melbourne Police Department.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police are investigating a shooting incident that left a man injured with multiple gunshots Friday night near Delavana Apartments on 1420 Avocado Ave. in Melbourne, according to a release by police and Lt. Shawn Eising of the Melbourne Police Department.

Police say they received 911 calls at around 8:39 p.m. about the sound of gun shots being heard in the area.

A witness noticed a white male leaving the area on foot who appeared to have been shot, according to the witness. Another witness reported a bullet had entered the woman’s home through a window.

When officers arrived on scene, they located evidence of a shooting , but were unable to locate a victim at that time. As a result, a thorough search of the area was conducted utilizing a police K-9 and the Brevard County Sheriff Office’s aviation unit.

After about 30 minutes into the search, police received word the victim had walked nearly 2 miles to his home, according to police.

When police made contact with the victim, they identified a conscious white male in his mid-forties who appeared to have been shot several times in the abdomen.

“The man indicated he was taking a short cut through the apartments on his way home when a black male wearing a hooded jacket approached him and began shooting,” said Lt. Eising.

“The victim was unable to provide any further detail at the time and was transported to a local hospital where he received emergency surgery.”

Police do not have any more information on the suspect, at this time.
