Gators play valuable role in Florida habitats

ABOVE VIDEO: FWC Fish and Wildlife Research Institute – During a recent visit to the Big Cypress Swamp, photographer Bobby Wummer captured some great footage of alligators on the move. Alligators are dormant throughout much of the winter, and as spring approaches they become more active. During the winter, they are found in burrows that they construct adjacent to an alligator hole or open water, and they occasionally emerge to bask in the sun during spells of warm weather. Our state reptile is an important part of Florida’s heritage and plays a valuable role in the habitats where they live.
