(FOX SPORTS) – March Madness has nothing on NASCAR when it comes to stunning upsets — at least not on Sunday at Phoenix Raceway.

Ryan Newman scored a shocking surprise win in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Camping World 500 Sunday, gambling to stay out on old tires at the end and earning a huge payoff.

It was Newman’s 18th Cup win overall and his second at Phoenix, but his first since joining Richard Childress Racing in 2013.

It broke a 127-race winless string for the driver of the No. 31 RCR Chevrolet, and also was RCR’s first win as an organization since Kevin Harvick won at the same track, also in 2013, before switching companies with Newman and going to drive for Stewart-Haas Racing.
