BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and the Immigration Customs Enforcement/Homeland Security Investigations (ICE/HIS) culminated a joint investigation with the arrest of 77-year-old Billy Leon Dyer, who was charged with three counts of Production of Child Pornography and Attempted Enticement of a Child.

If convicted, Dyer faces a maximum penalty of life in federal prison.

Dyer, of 7664 Candlewick Drive in Melbourne, was arrested Thursday after a Federal Grand Jury issued a four count indictment relative to an investigation initiated by Sheriff’s Office Task Force Agent Jim Landen. The investigation commenced earlier this year as agents received information that Dyer was in contact with underage children soliciting them for sexual acts.

“In March, an agent took on the persona of one of these children and began conversing with Dyer, whereupon he agreed to travel to a location in Brevard County to engage in sexual relations with the child,” said Brevard County Sheriff’s Office PIO Tod Goodyear.

“On March 10, Dyer was arrested by BCSO and HSI Task Force agents when he arrived at the pre-arranged location. Subsequent to that arrest, a search warrant was served on the residence of Dyer where computer and other electronic media were seized. A forensic examination of the items uncovered over 100 images depicting child pornography that appeared to have been produced by Dyer.”

Through their efforts, those that prey on our children are identified, arrested and sentenced to very long terms away from our citizens and children. I can’t thank HSI and the Attorney’s Office enough for their support and participation!”
