BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Jamie Wong is a local tattoo artist that works at the Big Bang Studio in Cocoa Village and was recently nominated to appear on News Channel 13’s Everyday Hero segment for what he does to make his community a better place to live.

Three years ago, Jamie decided he wanted to do something special for local kids in need over the holiday season. He started Toys for Tattoos, a special where customers could come in to get tattoos in exchange for a toy donation.

What started as a last minute whim three years ago when he collected $2,500 in toys, has now grown to close to $10,000 in toys for local kids this past Christmas.

“One year I had to tattoo one of my friends just so I could afford to get surf boards for my kids,” said Wong.

“I’ve been there and had to do that for myself, but now that I’ve established myself as an artist I can do this for a ton of kids now.”

Wong says his kids are the reason he gives back to his community.

“It was when I realized my kids wanted to be like me, so that really made me change. Just knowing someone wants to be like you and watching you at all times, it’s really just setting a good example for them,” Wong said.

Wong also recently started feeding homeless within the community and aspires to continue his good deeds around the country.

“I don’t have any intentions of stopping anytime soon. Eventually I see myself traveling around the whole U.S. and trying to spread love and little hope around everywhere you know,” Wong said.

You can also find Wong participating in many community events. He assisted Cocoa Main Street with their Zombie Run event last year that raised thousands of dollars for the Cocoa Village community.
