BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — WFIT 89.5 FM, the radio voice of Florida Institute of Technology, has announced that the all-female alt rock band Good Luck Audrey has won the station’s inaugural Garage Band Contest.
The Melbourne quartet, whose influences include Evanescence, Hey Violet, Flyleaf, 5 Seconds of Summer and Paramore, can be heard at noon April 7 on the WFIT program Soundwaves.
Members of the band come from a diverse background and all share a passion for music:
- Landin Krewe, 22, has been playing and writing music for nearly 10 years.
- Safiay Ellen, 18, has been drumming for more than 9 years and also plays guitar, piano and sings.
- Kat Oldenburg, 17, has a musically diverse background and is a leader in her local youth group.
- Jordan Greaves, 14, has classical training and, at the age of 10, performed the National Anthem for the Orlando Solar Bears and Washington Nationals.
To be eligible for the contest, which drew dozens of entries, bands must have been unsigned and include at least one member who is enrolled in a Brevard County high school, college or university.
Bands entered by providing a video of them performing an original song in a garage. The videos were judged based on musical quality/appeal, originality, and stage presence/charisma.
“Our inaugural contest was a success because it provided a new avenue to explore and highlight the vast array of talent in our community,” said WFIT General Manager Terri Wright.
