Registration Underway For Florida Institute of Technology Summer Camps

Three dozen different camps offering unique, challenging and fun summer experiences for participants age 3 to 18 will be available at Florida Institute of Technology this summer.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Three dozen different camps offering unique, challenging and fun summer experiences for participants age 3 to 18 will be available at Florida Institute of Technology this summer.

Camps in academics, sports, art and more start May 30. Registration is now underway, CLICK HERE for details.

There are exciting new camps and plenty of returning favorites.

New for 2017 is the Girls in STEM camp. Open to high school students, the goal of the June 25-July 1 camp is to encourage and inspire the next generation of female professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Participants will be exposed to research in various areas, including marine and environmental sciences, electrical and computer engineering, and mechanical and aerospace engineering.

They will also be introduced to graph theory, statistics, data mining and mathematical modeling techniques and software, while also developing problem solving and analytical thinking skills.

Lab experiments, field trips and social events are planned, as well.

Florida Tech’s Evans Library is offering a new camp for 2017: What We Know: Understanding Media and its Influence.

For middle school and high school students age 13-16, the five-day camp from June 26-30 will allow participants to examine media to better understand its impact and influence.

Campers will explore both alternative and mainstream media to understand how information is used to create meaning.

Returning favorites among academic camps from Florida Tech include Basic Flight Camp and Advanced Aviation Academy, Engineering Camp and Marine Science and Coastal Engineering Camp.

Based at Florida Tech but operated independently of the university is another favorite: iBrick Academy. With four five-day sessions from late June through July, this camp for ages 3-18 uses LEGOs to illustrate STEM concepts.

Youngsters looking to train their bodies as well as their minds may consider Florida Tech’s sports camps.

Whether learning basketball with Head Coach Billy Mims, exploring college-level football with head Coach Steve Englehart, playing soccer, softball, volleyball or tennis, there are camps for all ages and all skill levels.

Looking to beat the heat? Try Snorkeling Camp. For ages 6-13, the June 12-16 camp is a great lead-in to SCUBA diving offered in a safe, educational and fun environment.

This camp teaches the fundamentals of snorkeling, including emphasis on proper usage of mask, fins and snorkel. All skills are intermingled with pool games.

Seeking a bit more variety in addition to pool time?

The All Sports Camp for Boys and Girls, held June 5-9 for ages 6-16, is designed to teach the basic to advanced skills in swimming, along with instruction and recreational play in soccer, volleyball, basketball, fun noodle water polo, flag football, kickball, dodgeball and Whiffle ball.

Florida Tech’s Foosaner Art Museum has seven weeks of morning, afternoon and full-day camps for ages 4-15 starting June 6.

Reflecting the depth and breadth of art itself, the morning mixed media camps and afternoon sessions focused on a specific medium provide participants enlightening, hands-on experiences.

Morning sessions include themes such as Nature Lovers, Peace Makers and Creative Critters. Afternoon camps focus on painting, printmaking, sketchbook and more. Art camps will be open for registration starting April 18.
