BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Beginning in 2013, Cocoa set out with a goal to improve the fire service for the entire community. This included increasing the number of solo paramedics to enhance ALS service, increasing staffing and purchasing new equipment and vehicles.

Last fiscal year, a relocation analysis was done on the existing fire stations.

The goal was to have an aggregate four minute response time for the entire City to include our new growth areas north and west of S.R.524.

This report evaluated five years of calls for service for the City of Cocoa.

It showed the need to renew and replace the existing stations due to growth of Cocoa (land area, population increase and shift).

The analysis also showed that the current stations do not meet ADA or OSHA requirements and are in need of significant maintenance and repairs. The stations also need to accommodate both male and female firefighters with separate facilities, which they do not now.

The first station to be constructed will be Station 1, which will be located on Dixon Blvd. just west of Clearlake Road. The groundbreaking for this station was held in December and construction is set to be complete by the end of September.

Station 2 will be located off of Brunson Blvd. just east of U.S.1. Station 3 will be located off of S.R.524 west of Industry.

Each of these stations will now meet the National Fire Protections Agency response time standards of 4 minutes or less to the entire City of Cocoa, 90% of the time.

Fire Station #1 – March 2017 Update

W&J Construction and their Subcontractors are working to bring the City of Cocoa Fire Station #1 project out of the ground. In the month of March, the team has completed bringing in the fill dirt required for the new fire station building pad. The plumbers and the electrical subcontractors have completed all of the underground plumbing and electrical services inside the building footprint and are preparing to pour the concrete slab.

Upon the completion of the concrete slabs, the concrete block walls will begin and the building will begin to take its shape. This is an exciting time for the construction team, the City of Cocoa and the local community as the construction of the new headquarters for the City of Cocoa Fire Department prepares to gather momentum.
