BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center at Wuesthoff Medical Center–Rockledge recently earned two hospital quality awards for its exceptional care of wound patients. Healogics, Inc., a wound care management and consulting company, presented the Wuesthoff facility with its Center of Distinction and Presidential awards in February.

The Rockledge facility earned its Center of Distinction Award by meeting several Healogics healthcare metrics during 2016. Among the centers that qualify for that award come a small number of Presidential Award winners recognized as going above and beyond.

Healogics examined 804 centers, granting 334 Center of Distinction Awards and only 33 Presidential Awards. Wuesthoff’s Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center in Rockledge is the only winner of that prestigious honor in Brevard County.

Award criteria included patient satisfaction rate, wound healing rate, and median days of healing.

“The staff is amazing here,” said Victor Stanley, program director of the Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center at Wuesthoff Medical Center – Rockledge.

“They’re highly skilled in wound care and they all go the extra mile with our patients.”

The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center manages and treats problem, non-healing wounds. In the most acute cases, the staff works to mitigate the threat of limb amputation. Among the types of wounds treated at the center are surgical wounds, diabetic ulcers and wounds resulting from radiation therapy.

“We’re equipped to handle the worst-case situations, problem-healing wounds,” Stanley said, “those that have gone more than 21 days without healing.”

The center’s work includes many advanced therapies, such as the application of tissue grafts and hyperbaric medicine from its high-tech chambers.

“The hyperbaric chamber gives us an edge in helping patients,” Stanley said.

“It increases oxygen in the blood, which helps with the healing process. Wounds heal faster as a result.”
