BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The YMCA of Central Florida is welcoming all families from across the region to swing by their neighborhood Y on Saturday, April 29 for day of fun activities at its 26th annual Healthy Kids Day.

Healthy Kids Day is sponsored by Publix Super Markets Charities in Brevard County and all three Brevard County loctions will hold events on Satuday, April 29.

The Suntree location (321-259-2929) will hold their event from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., the Cocoa location (321-433-7770) will be from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and the Titusville location(321-267-8924) will be from 10 – 1 p.m.

Healthy Kids Day is the YMCA’s national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families and was designed to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active during the summer.

Healthy Kids Day will be hosted at the Y’s in Brevard County, as well as Orange, Marion, Lake, Seminole and Osceola counties—is open to the public and will feature wholesome activities including games, crafts, nutrition demo’s and summer camp registration.

YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, celebrated at over 1,600 Y’s across the country by over 1.2 million participants, works to get more kids moving and learning, creating habits that they continue all summer long.

When kids are out of school, they can face hurdles that prevent them from reaching their full potential.

Research shows that without access to out-of-school learning activities, kids fall behind academically during the summer and this learning loss is more pronounced among students from low-income families.

Kids also gain weight twice as fast during summer than the school year.

As spring turns to summer, Healthy Kids Day is a powerful reminder not to let children idle away their summer days.

To help families kick off their summer the right way, the YMCA will also provide new members who join on April 29, a choice of one complimentary Y program.

Instead, the Y wants families to focus on “charging” kids up with enthusiasm for themselves and their potential.

“When a child is healthy, happy motivated, and excited something amazing is inevitably going to result,” said Dan Wilcox, CEO of the YMCA of Central Florida.

“We believe in the potential of all children, and we strive to help kids find that potential within themselves. A child’s development is never on vacation and Healthy Kids Day is a great opportunity to educate families and motivate kids to stay active in spirit, mind and body throughout the summer.”
