Florida Tech’s Joshua Norville Named 2017 South Region Field Athlete of the Year

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced that Florida Tech’s Joshua Norville was named the 2017 South Region Field Athlete of the Year.

Norville becomes the first Panther to receive the award.

The freshman had a phenomenal season for the Crimson and Gray and was one of the top performers nationally in both the long jump and triple jump in 2017.

Norville ranked fifth nationally in the long jump with a mark of 7.58m, while his triple jump ranked 21st in the nation with a leap of 15.10m.

The Lehigh Acres, Florida product won a pair of medals at the Peach Belt Conference Championships in his rookie season.

Along with his teammate Ondrej Rapp, Norville qualified in the long jump for the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week in Bradenton, Florida at IMG Academy.

Norville took the bronze medal in the long jump before corralling the gold medal the following day in the triple jump.

Along with his teammate Ondrej Rapp, Norville qualified in the long jump for the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week in Bradenton, Florida at IMG Academy.

The long jump finals will occur on the first day of the championships, Thursday, May 25, at 6:20 p.m. ET.
