BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Don’t fight it. Give in to your inner cowboy or cowgirl and just say “Giddyap” when the Melbourne Community Orchestra presents a concert of all-western themes.
MCO Goes West will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, May 10 and 11 at the Melbourne Auditorium, located at 625 Hibiscus Boulevard in Melbourne.
Admission is free, with no tickets required. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for best seating.
Your favorite cowboy tunes will be well represented during MCO Goes West, as the orchestra celebrates some of the most recognizable soundtracks from “Westerns” of stage, screen and television.
The 50 youth musicians from Creative Young Artists will perform with the Melbourne Community Orchestra on the second half of the program. The audience will hear music from The Magnificent Seven and Oklahoma, with memories of the Old West and John Wayne invoked with the “Overture” to The Cowboys.
Other favorites include Aaron Copland’s “Outdoor Overture,” along with “Hoe Down” from Rodeo and more.

Melbourne Community Orchestra Conductor, Mark Nelson, is certain MCO Goes West will bring back happy memories for many in the audience.
“Many of us grew up with this music,” said Nelson. “So it’s fitting that we’re performing with the Creative Young Artists Youth Orchestra for part of the program. They are enjoying the heck out of learning these uniquely American tunes.”
