Melbourne Police Seek Suspect For Attempted Robbery After Man Threatens To Blow Up Amscot Building

Melbourne Police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred Monday night at around 8:40 p.m. at Amscot Financial, located near 1050 N. Wickham Road in Melbourne.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred Monday night at around 8:40 p.m. at Amscot Financial, located near 1050 N. Wickham Road in Melbourne.

Police were contacted by an employee from Amscot Financial after a suspect demanded money and threatened harm to the employee, according to Lt. Chery Trainer of the Melbourne Police Department.

Authorities say the suspect handed the employee a note which demanded the employee to act quickly and give the suspect a large sum of money because he had strapped a bomb to the building.

Moments later, an employee locked the office doors and activated an alarm, causing the suspect to flee the area.

An extensive search area was conducted, however no suspect was located.

After a thorough search in-and-around the building determined there were no indications of any devices or explosive material placed on the building.

Police say the suspect was described as a white male, approximately 5-foot-8 inches tall, medium build, with dark hair and scars on his face, according to Lt. Trainer.

Authorities note that the suspect was wearing a white and black t-shirt, and jean shorts.
