BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Grand Jury issued an indictment Tuesday charging Desmond Marcus Elerby, 28, with first degree murder for shooting and killing Antonio Knight, 23, on November 16, 2012.

The indictment was sought after Sophia Williams, charged with Accessory After the Fact to First Degree Murder in 2015, pled guilty to aiding Elerby in his flight from the scene and attempts to conceal his involvement.

The Grand Jury heard testimony from a Rockledge Police Department Investigator, the Associate Brevard County Medical Examiner and a lay witness before returning with the indictment for First Degree Premeditated Murder and Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon.

The additional charge was the result of Elerby being a convicted felon using of a firearm at the time of Knight’s murder.

Elerby is currently in custody in the Florida Department of Corrections for a 2013 conviction for Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon.

“The epidemic of gun violence in our community must be aggressively fought with the strict enforcement of our laws and the vigorous prosecution of those who violate them,” said State Attorney Phil Archer.

“There are no statutes of limitation for murder and no limit in our efforts to pursue those who commit it. We will always seek justice for the victims.”
