BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Speak Out Brevard, a “locally-based coalition for positive change,” together with non-profit Space Coast Pride, is holding a “United We Stand For Love” vigil and fundraising event in remembrance of the one-year anniversary of the Pulse nightclub tragedy in which 49 people lost their lives.
The event is scheduled for Saurday, June 17 from 7 – 9 p.m. in the Eau Gallie Arts District on the corner of W. Eau Gallie Blvd and Highland Avenue in Melbourne. All are welcome and admission is free.
“The purpose behind this event is twofold,” said Jazzie Hennings, Speak Out Brevard treasurer.
“First and foremost, it’s to remember the unimaginable tragedy of the lives we lost, the surviving victims, and their loved ones. Second, we believe it’s an opportunity to address actions to prevent similar tragedies in the future. And with hate crimes and hate groups on the rise, we are seizing an opportunity to spread a message of love and unity.”
Speakers for the event will include National Organization for Women President Michele Paccione, PFLAG Chaplain Brian Devlin, Unity of Melbourne Assistant Pastor Valerie Parsons, and Space Coast Pride President Richard Chiarelli.
Proceeds collected from merchandise sales onsite and online, as well as from the silent auction, will benefit the One Pulse Foundation and the local chapter of PFLAG and Rainbow Youth.
Items up for bid include a $100 gift certificate for Wassi’s meat market, free family admission to the Space Coast Iceplex, original art and photography, and much more. Other items will also be available online at SpeakOutBrevard.com
