BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Beach Board of Adjustment will consider a proposal Wednesday evening from the owners of the Cocoa Beach Pier to install three amusement rides including the “Tornado,” “Drop & Twist” and a carousel.

If approved, the rides would be located south of the Cocoa Beach Pier entrance, and north of Pulsipher Avenue.

As it stands now the City of Cocoa Beach does not have any rules in regard to regulating amusement rides, so the board of adjustment will make the call to allow the rides.

A Brevard County landmark, the Cocoa Beach Pier was built by the Stottler family in 1962 and over the years has evolved into an iconic beach destination for families.

The Pier, which draws more than one million visitors annually, spans 800 feet in length and is currently home to five restaurants and bars, along with several gift shops.

In the spring of 2014, David Siegel, President and CEO of Westgate Resorts, and longtime business associate Jim Gissy purchased the Cocoa Beach Pier from the Stottler family with plans to renovate the pier and make it the premier family dining and entertainment destination for the Central Florida/Cocoa Beach community.

The board of adjustment will convene at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to consider the proposal.
