Longtime Titusville Fire Department Chaplain Rev. John M. DeVoss Passed Away July 12

John M. DeVoss, Chaplain Emeritus of the Titusville Fire Department, was laid to rest in a private burial service July 16 at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Scottsmoor. Chaplain DeVoss, or “Chaplain” as he was known to TFD members, served the citizens of Titusville and the members of the department for more than 20 years. In a Facebook post, the Titusville Fire Department said,”The comfort and compassion he provided to all of us was beyond measure. He was selfless in his service and always ready to serve. BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Rev. John M. DeVoss, 89, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017. He was born January 27, 1928 in McKinney, Texas.

DeVoss was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, then attended Bob Jones University and graduated in 1953. He served as a Baptist minister from 1951-2001 in Illinois, Kentucky and Florida.

He proudly served as chaplain of the Titusville Fire Department for over 20 years.

DeVoss is survived by his beloved wife Charlotte; 6 children: David (Linda), Steve (Pam), Dan (Penny), Mike (Michelle), Mark (Angie) and Dawn McKellip (Dalton); 13 grandchildren: Mandy Cowart (Daryl) Krissy White (Mike), Stephanie, Emily Stavrianos (Aris), Amy, Zeke (Daniela), Eli, Josh, Celia, Grace McKellip, Ezra McKellip, Abigail McKellip, Simon; and 8 great grandchildren.

John loved his wife and was devoted to the woman he called “Babe” for their nearly 67 years together. He was extremely proud of his family and loved to attend the many activities of his children and grandchildren. He selflessly served his community for his entire adult life. And after a lifetime of faith and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ, he has gone home to be with Him.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 16 at First Baptist Church in Titusville. A private burial service followed at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Scottsmoor.
