BPS: Titusville Legacy Academy Charter School Students Will Have To Find Another Place To Go

BREVARD COUNTY • TIUSVILLE, FLORDIA – Legacy Academy Charter, Inc. did not meet the inspection and safety requirements set by the state and Legacy’s contract with Brevard Public Schools.

“On Aug. 8, the charter school’s contract with Brevard Public Schools will be reviewed for termination by the Brevard County School Board,” said BPS officials in a Facebook post.

“BPS supports the students, staff and proposed curriculum of Legacy Academy Charter, but we must ensure the health, safety and welfare of our students.”

The charter school, located at 218 Palm Avenue in Titusville, is slated to open for the 2017-2018 school year. Legacy Academy Charter received the pre-opening requirements April 26, 2016.

The remaining areas of non-compliance include:

• Certificate of Occupancy has not been issued by the City of Titusville
• Not passing state health inspections
• Not meeting insurance requirements stated in their lease agreement with their landlord

Each affected student’s home school is prepared to assist families with any potential needs.
