BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard Heart Foundation recognized six Eastern Florida State College students with nursing scholarships Tuesday at the new Health Sciences Institute on the Melbourne campus.

The six recipients was double the number of students rewarded last year as Kate Ahmie, Aimee Cornman, Heather Fitzgerald, Richardo Gonzales, Aspen Lee all received nursing scholarships.

Maureen Tabor received the Nancy Meisenheimer Nursing Scholarship. The award is named after a dedicated nurse who served in Brevard County and is presented annually to an Eastern Florida student.

“I am immensely honored, out of all the applications they received, I was selected,” Tabor said after the ceremony.

“It is an incredible feeling. Of course it means a lot monetarily to help me. I work full time as well so I am just stunned. I am really grateful.”

In all, the scholarship awards totaled $4,500.

The Brevard Heart Foundation is celebrating its 60th year and has provided more than $500,000 in medical student scholarships in Brevard County over the past 30 years.
