Below, we present retired Brevard County Fire Rescue Lt. James Neviaser, who was known as the “go-to-guy,” and a competent and effective officer who could always be counted on to be an asset on any call. He was highly respected by the troops who routinely looked up to him for direction and leadership.

Lieutenant James Neviaser started his public service in 1983, and after 34 years of incredible service, retired this past May leaving an everlasting impression on Brevard County.

34 Years of Incredible Leadership, Service

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Lt. James Neviaser started his public service in 1983, and after 34 years of incredible service, retired this past May leaving an everlasting impression on Brevard County.

At the time of his retirement, Neviaser was the most senior Lieutenant at Brevard County Fire Rescue.

He was born in Washington, D.C. in December 1960, and in 1968, moved to Florida with his parents where he attended various schools from Daytona Beach to the Florida Keys.

Neviaser began his career as a volunteer firefighter in the Florida Key, dividing his time between the Marathon Volunteer Fire Department and Conch Key Fire Department.

After moving to Central Florida, he became a member of the Kissimmee Heights Volunteer Fire Department. where he served for approximately four years.

Neviaser was hired as a firefighter for Brevard County Fire Rescue in 1987 and promoted to Lieutenant a few years later. He received an AS degree in Fire Science and continued his education and quest for knowledge by attending specialized and technical training throughout his career.

He was known as the “go-to-guy,” a competent and effective officer who could always be counted on to be an asset on any call. Neviaser was highly respected by the troops who routinely looked up to him for direction and leadership.

When asked what his proudest achievement was, he said it was servicing citizens and saving lives. Neviaser said his proudest moment was the day his future son-in-law was hired by Brevard County Fire Rescue and assigned to Station 22-C shift, working with his former crew.

He served the citizens of Brevard County at a number of stations in various districts and ended his career at Station 22 in Mims.

Neviaser was the recipient of many awards and accolades during his outstanding career, including Company Officer of the Year, Unit Citation Awards, Meritorious Service Awards, Community Service Awards, Commendable Service Awards and many letters from citizens expressing their gratitude.

He was an avid department adjunct instructor and was responsible for training and mentorship of hundreds of new recruits, and is best known as a mentor to many current and past BCFR firefighters and staff today.
