Titusville Homeowner Detains Burglary Suspect Until Police Arrive, Second Suspect Arrested

Titusville Police have arrested 31-year-old Deltona man after responding to a report of a burglary in progress, on Tuesday, and that the homeowner and his family members had the suspect detained.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville Police have arrested 31-year-old Deltona man after responding to a report of a burglary in progress, on Tuesday, and that the homeowner and his family members had the suspect detained.

John William Pingrin, 31, of Deltona, was arrested and charged with three felonies; Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling, Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription, and Theft.

According to Amy Matthews of the Titusville Police Department, the preliminary investigation has revealed that one of the victims found the suspect rummaging through the cabinets in the open garage of his home on Tuesday, August 1, at around 12:30 a.m., located near the 3700 block of Prescott Street.

Police say the victims then held the suspect at bay until police arrived within minutes of the initial call.

No injuries were reported and Pingrin was booked into the Brevard County Jail and is being held on a $19,000 bond.

Subsequently, observant witnesses near the scene noticed a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) fleeing from the scene of the burglary, and were able obtain the vehicle’s tag number, according to police.

The Titusville Police ongoing investigation led to the identity of the driver of the SUV, Benjamen Eric Scherer, 30, of Mims, who was arrested on August 3, and charged with two felonies including Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling and Theft.

Scherer was booked into the Volusia County Jail.
