There are a lot of things that contribute to our overall health. However, few take such a centered and important role as our cardiovascular system.

Being part of everything happening in our bodies, you can understand why it’s so important. But how do you tend to the health of your cardiovascular system?

If you want to know how you can improve your cardiovascular system’s resilience, you’ve come to the right place. Here, we will discuss what you can do in order to improve your cardiovascular system.

Smoking and drinking are bad for you (who would have thought?)

Heart disease is often the result of smoking a lot of cigarettes and drinking too much alcohol.  By limiting your intake of alcohol and nicotine you are increasing your chances of avoiding strokes and heart problems by a lot.

If you quit altogether, the benefits only increase further.  We’re not saying you shouldn’t go out and have fun, we’re simply saying that you should try and do it without a lot of cigarettes and drinks.

Salt is best taken in limited amounts

You can’t have a meal without salt, everyone knows this. However, you shouldn’t pour a mountain of salt in your food. It won’t be any tastier if you add ten times the advised amount.

As you advance in age, your body can handle less and less salt, but if you’re below 50 you shouldn’t go above 1500 mg of sodium per day. If you’re above the age of 50, lower it down to 1200 mg.

Sleep is good for the heart

Not everything gets better with a good night’s sleep, but one of the things that do is your heart. If you sleep at least 6 hours per day, you lower the risks of having a stroke or other nasty heart complication. These risks grow exponentially however when you refuse to go to bed at an appropriate hour and don’t get at least 6 hours of sleep every night.

Drastic weight fluctuations are dangerous

It’s normal to have your body fluctuate in weight, especially during challenging or busy period of the year or your life. However, it’s dangerous to have your body undergo massive weight changes constantly.

Try your best to manage your weight and ensure it will keep relatively steady over the course of long periods of time. This will prevent a lot of unnecessary heart problems with blood pressure and cholesterol.

Don’t forget to exercise

Your physical condition plays an important part in how healthy your heart is. Exercise daily to maintain a healthy body. Although the risk of heart disease shouldn’t be why you work out, it’s one of the reasons why the gym should be your second home. Keep away from serious problems by staying in shape.
