BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Health First’s Cape Canaveral Hospital transferred the majority of the facility’s patients on Friday to other Health First hospitals in Brevard County.

Located just off State Road 520 on the Banana River in Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral Hospital features 150 beds and a 21-bed Level II Emergency Department.

The hospital complex also includes an adjoining six-story Medical Plaza that includes physician’s offices and a conference center, pre-operative testing, outpatient registration for laboratory testing and same-day surgery, as well as a Health Resource Center for the community.

“Safety is our top priority, and we prepare for these types of situations,” said Matthew Gerrell, Health First Vice President Marketing & Communications.

“As we continue to monitor Hurricane Irma, Health First is taking all of the necessary safety precautions. With Cape Canaveral Hospital being located on a barrier island, we felt the evacuation was needed to ensure the safety of our patients.”

Gerrell said that officials will assess the hospital for any damage after the storm has passed. Once it is cleared for safety, it will begin accepting new patients.

Founded in 1995, Health First is Brevard County’s not-for-profit, community healthcare system. The fully Integrated Delivery Network (IDN) includes health insurance plans, four hospitals, a multi-specialty medical group, and outpatient and wellness services.
