BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA (WFTV) – A small plane skidded off the runway at Merritt Island Airport into the Banana River Sunday morning, Brevard County firefighters said.

The Piper PA-32 went off the runway after trying to take off around 9 a.m., officials said.

Firefighters said the four people aboard the plane escaped uninjured.

The plane went into the water where the runway ends.
