Brevard County is now under a Hurricane Watch

SPACE COAST DAILY TV HURRICANE IRMA UPDATE: State and local officials brief the press Friday on the status of Hurricane Irma from the Brevard County Emergency Management Operation Center. Brevard County is now under a Hurricane Watch.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A hurricane watch is now in effect for Brevard County as Irma’s center is currently predicted by the National Hurricane Center to pass over the Downtown Orlando area as a Category 2 storm with maximum winds of up to 110 mph late Sunday night or early Monday morning.

The Space Coast will start to get tropical-storm-force winds by Saturday night.

Currently, Irma is expected to move between the north coast of Cuba and the Bahamas in the next 48 hours and be near the Keys and Florida’s southern peninsula by early Sunday.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jupiter Inlet southward around the Florida peninsula to Bonita Beach, including the Florida Keys, Lake Okeechobee, Florida Bay, the Southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Cuban provinces of Camaguey, Ciego de Avila, Sancti Spiritus, and Villa Clara, and the Central Bahamas and Northwestern Bahamas.
