150 zany characters – played by a cast of four
BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – The Surfside Playhouse in Cocoa Beach brings you “The 39 Steps,” a Patrick Barlow adaptation of the Buchan novel best remembered from the 1935 suspense film by Alfred Hitchcock.
Opening Friday, Sept. 15, The 39 Steps will run through September 24, under the direction of Bryan Bergeron.
Filled with plenty of laughs, The 39 Steps features nearly 150 zany characters – played by a cast of four.
The 250-seat Surfside Playhouse, “where the beach meets the stage,” is west on South Fifth Street from Highway A1A and located at 301 Ramp Road, at the northwest corner of Brevard Avenue and Ramp Road.
Kirk Murphy plays Richard Hannay, an ordinary man who stumbles into an extraordinary adventure, while Becky Behl-Hill plays all of the female characters with whom Hannay becomes romantically entangled.
In a piece of truly inventive stagecraft, Dusty Ray and Joanne Maio play all of the remaining characters during non-stop action in England and Scotland that includes an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and good old-fashioned romance.
Friday and Saturday performances of the Samuel French play are at 8 p.m., Sunday shows are at 2 p.m. Adult tickets to all shows are $25, Senior/Military/Student tickets are $22.
