FANS TREATED TO second playoff quadruple- header in three days

ABOVE VIDEO: MLB 2017 Red Sox vs Astros (ALDS Game 4) Highlights.

(MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL) — Riding on the strength of their city’s resolve as residents battle back from Hurricane Harvey and a very good baseball team who happened to win 101 games this past season, the Houston Astros took a 2-1 series lead into soggy Fenway Park on Monday with hopes of advancing to their first American League Championship Series.

Boston and Houston kicked off the second postseason quadruple-header in three days on Monday, as all eight remainng playoff teams took to the diamond to do battle. Three of the series had the potential to end but closing out another team in the playoffs in any sport is one of the hardest games to win.

Aside from the Astros, the Cleveland Indians and LA Dodgers also had opportunities to close out their best-of-five matchups and move onto League Championship play.

However, by the time the clock struck midnight on the east coast early Tuesday morning, only one of the teams had advanced. That changed a short time later, as the West Coast game finished up sending a second team one step closer to the “Fall Classic” on the day.

Below is a video highlight recap of all four playoff games.

Houston 5 Boston 4 (Astros win series 3-1)

The Astros had battled the Red Sox for more than four hours of drama-filled October baseball before second baseman Jose Altuve fielded a grounder off the bat of Dustin Pedroia and threw it to first base for the final out of a 5-4 win that locked up Game 4 of the American League Division Series presented by Doosan.

The Astros, who won the series, 3-1, danced and shouted after advancing to their first American League Championship Series presented by Camping World, beginning Friday against the winner of the Indians-Yankees series, while the Red Sox’s season came to an end.

Cody Bellinger Shines as Dodgers Sweep Past Diamondbacks, Advance to NLCS (LA Wins Series 3-0)

ABOVE VIDEO: With Cody Bellinger driving in runs and Yu Darvish and the bullpen preventing them, the Dodgers completed their three-game sweep of the National League Division Series on Monday with a 3-1 victory over the D-backs.

With Cody Bellinger driving in runs and Yu Darvish and the bullpen preventing them, the Dodgers completed their three-game sweep of the National League Division Series presented by T-Mobile on Monday with a 3-1 victory over the D-backs at Chase Field to reach the NL Championship Series presented by Camping World for the second consecutive year.

It opens Saturday at Dodger Stadium against either the Chicago Cubs, who beat them in last year’s NLCS, or the Washington Nationals, whom they beat in the NLDS. Chicago leads Washington in the NLDS, two games to one, with Game 4 on Tuesday.

Darvish, a Trade Deadline acquisition for exactly this purpose, outpitched Zack Greinke, who left the Dodgers two years ago for a $206.5 million payday from Arizona. Darvish, in his first game in two weeks, allowed two hits in five-plus innings, dinged only by Daniel Descalso’s two-out homer in the fifth inning.
