ORLANDO, FLORIDA (UCF Knights) – The Maxwell Football Club announced its 18 semifinalists for the 2017 Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year on Monday and among them was UCF sophomore quarterback McKenzie Milton.
Milton has been impressive in leading the No. 14/15 UCF football team to a 7-0 start to the 2017 campaign. Rarely seeing the field in the fourth quarter due to many of the Knights’ lopsided victories, Milton has continued to put up gaudy numbers.
He leads the nation in completion percentage (72.9), passing efficiency (199.7) and passing yards per attempt (11.28). He’s also 14th in the country with 19 passing touchdowns, and 14th in total offense with 321.6 yards per game.
Milton is the only player from the American Athletic Conference named as a semifinalist and is one of just five underclassmen still in contention for the award.
Semifinalist voting for the award presented by the Maxwell Football Club will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 31 and will close on Nov. 19. Three finalists will be announced on Nov. 20 and a second round of voting will take place at that time.
Eligible voters include Maxwell Football Club members, NCAA head football coaches, sports information directors and selected national media.
The winners of the 2017 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show, which will be held on December 7th at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on March 9, 2018.
