BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Leading the way this holiday season is Brevard’s foremost holiday event, the “Light Up Viera” Holiday Parade, which took place Saturday evening.

Now in its fifth year, the Light Up Viera parade, organized by the Viera Community Institute, continued the tradition of spreading holiday cheer with a captivating 2.7 mile parade that includes character meet and greets, delicious treats, professionally decorated holiday floats and the arrival of Santa Claus on his sleigh.

The Viera Community Institute is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to foster the health, harmony and well-being of the Viera community by facilitating educational, environmental, cultural and charitable activities and outreach programs within Viera.

Mindy Levy of 99.3 FM returned as one of the parade emcee’s this year along with her co-announcers, George from 1240 AM and Wingnut from 95.1 FM. The inaugural pre-parade fireworks display kicked off at 6 p.m., with the parade beginning at 6:10 p.m.

In addition to the festive costumes and parade floats that were be on display, this year’s parade integrated character meet and greets, entertainment and food truck vendors along the route.

Local groups and holiday characters strolled along the parade route at various points signing autographs, taking photos and entertaining enthusiastic spectators as the parade made its way to their location.

Delicious food vendors were also set up along the parade route dishing up delectable treats and sweets to awaiting guests.

A new and exciting aspect to this year’s parade are the strategically placed mailboxes to Santa where kids may drop off their letter and postcards to Santa. Postcards for Santa are available in the Viera Vision and at the mailboxes during the parade.

Accompanying the traditional parade floats this year was  golf-cart “floats” decorated and sponsored by local community businesses, as well as three high school bands which were performed throughout the parade.

Viera High School, Rockledge High School and Satellite High School  performed at this year’s parade and each high school received a generous donation from The Viera Company which goes towards their music programs.

“The Battle of the Bands contest element was replaced so the marching bands participating this year had additional funding for their programs,” said Vice President Marketing Lauri Duda.

“We felt this was important to allow for many of the smaller schools around the county to participate in the years to come. They have the opportunity to use the funds to benefit and support their ongoing needs within their music programs.”

Event Timeline: Saturday, Nov. 25, Light Up Viera Parade:

○ 4:30 p.m.: Guests arrive and enjoy character meet and greets and delicious treats from parade route food vendors.
○ 6:00 p.m.: Fireworks display.
○ 6:10 p.m.: Parade procession begins at Viera High School.
