BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Hartful Smith, 33, was arrested and charged with kidnapping, carjacking and battery after being suspected of forcing a woman into her car at a Viera apartment complex Tuesday morning.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, after forcing the woman into her car, Smith stopped off for gas where the victim attempted to escape but was dragged back into the vehicle.

The victim then tried to call a friend to alert law enforcement, but Smith took her cell phone away.

According to Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, BCSO received a call from the friend of the victim, who said that she received a cellphone call from the victim, and she could hear screaming, and what she heard was struggling and the phone went dead.

The victim’s friend was then able to track the victim’s phone via GPS to a house in Palm Bay where the suspect was arrested.
