BREVARD COUNTY • MCLARTY STADIUM • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – The 2017 Bar-B-Que Bowl might be the most exciting game in its history as the Rockledge Raiders scorched the Cocoa Tigers Friday night 20-17 in double overtime, dealing the No. 1 Class 4A team in Florida their first loss to a Brevard County foe in nine years.

After a torrid defensive battle, the Raiders won the game on a Ladarius Tennison touchdown, after Cocoa kicker Alex Petruzzello booted a 14-yard field goal during the second overtime period.

The Tigers (8-1) and head coach John Wilkinson, were winners of 18-straight games going into this contest, looking to finish the regular season undefeated and secure the No. 1 seed in Class 4A with a win.

The Rockledge Raiders, now 6-3 on the season, are peaking at the right time with the playoffs starting next week.

The Florida High School Athletic Association will announce the 2017 playoff brackets on Sunday – be sure to stay tuned to Space Coast Daily as we report live who’s in and who’s out.

The Raiders were battle tested early on in the 2017 season after starting the season 1-3 on the year. The combined opponent’s record for the teams Rockledge has lost to is 23-1 between three teams. (Viera, Osceola, Clearwater CC)

Since the 1-3 start, Rockledge has rolled to five-straight wins and outscoring their last four opponents by a combined score of 186-27. Averaging 46.5 points a game on offense and only giving up nearly 7 points a game has made this Rockledge team a contender in Class 5A.

Having clinched the Class 5A District 14 title already, Rockledge earned major bragging rights on Friday night.

Rockledge is led by their dynamic offense trio in senior all-purpose back, Jashaun Corbin, junior running back Jalen Mitchell and senior wide receiver Antoine Green.

Corbin, Florida State commit, has been lightning since taking snaps at QB against Clearwater Central Catholic (10/6) and added a new wrinkle for the Raiders offense that is giving defense’s fits these last four games.

Also, Florida State commit, WR Antoine Green,  has shown the ability to be a matchup issue for cornerbacks on the defense. Green, 6-foot-3 and 190-pounds, has presented defenses mismatches on the outside.

The last time Cocoa lost a game in Brevard County to another Brevard County team came back in 2008 when the Tigers traveled to Merritt Island and fell to the Mustangs 15-14.
