LAKELAND, FLORIDA (FOX 13) – People across Florida saw a large fireball lingering in the western sky Saturday night.

Many recorded the slow-falling celestial object on their phones and shared the video with FOX 13, looking for guidance on what it might have been.

Chief Meteorologist Paul Dellegatto and Meteorologist Tyler Eliasen agree – the fireball was likely a meteor, possibly left behind by last night’s Leonid meteor shower.

No reports of a meteor entering the earth’s atmosphere have been made, but if any of the meteor did survive it’s fiery fall, it may have landed in the Atlantic Ocean.
