BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team won the US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Islands Division title with a 79-61 victory over Virginia Tech Saturday on the Melbourne campus of Eastern Florida State College.

The Mountaineers, who are ranked No. 11 in the latest Associated Press poll, finished the tournament 3-0 and are 6-0 on the season.

Saturday evening at Titan Field House West Virginia led from the start and kept adding to that lead in each quarter against Virginia Tech.

Mountaineer senior Teana Muldrow finished with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds while Chania Ray had 17 points and Naomi Davenport scored 15 and Kristina King had 13 in the win.

Muldrow was named the tournament Most Valuable Player, averaging 22 points and eight rebounds. Teammate Chania Ray also made the all-tournament team for West Virginia.

Virginia Tech was led by Regan Magarity’s 18 points while Rachel Camp had 15 points and 11 rebounds in her first start of the season. Taylor Emery was named to the all-tournament conference.

In the first game of the day, Drexel University defeated Butler University 76-62 making a three-way tie for second place after three days of basketball.

Drexel had five players score in double figures led by Bailey Greenberg and Megan Marecic who each had 15 points. It was a career high for Marecic who got the start on Saturday.

Sara Woods had 14 points and Kelsi Lidge had 12 points in the win as Drexel improved to 3-3 on the season. Teammate Aubree Brown was named to the all-tournament team.

Butler’s Whitney Jennings scored a game-high 28 points while al-tournament team member Tori Schickel’s double double. Schickel finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the game as the Bulldogs fell to 4-3 on the season.
