BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A two-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy were sent to the hospital after a vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 1 late Monday morning.
According to Cocoa Police Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez, the female child was sent to the trauma center in Orlando for serious injuries. The male child was also sent to the trauma center as a precaution. Both children were secured in child restraint seats.
“The crash occurred at approximately 11 a.m. when the driver of a Chevy Impala northbound on U.S. 1 attempted to make an illegal U-turn at the intersection of Dixon Boulevard,” said Martinez.
“The Impala pulled in front of an oncoming southbound Ford Taurus. The driver of the Taurus could not avoid impact. There were no other injuries in the crash.”
Martinez said that the female driver of the Impala is being cited for failure to yield the right of way, which caused the crash.
Traffic homicide investigators are conducting further investigation into the crash.
