'There is no guarantee a transaction will result from these discussions'

The Boeing Company and Embraer confirmed on Thursday the two companies are engaged in discussions regarding a potential combination, the basis of which remains under discussion.

CHICAGO & SAO PAULO – The Boeing Company and Embraer confirmed on Thursday the two companies are engaged in discussions regarding a potential combination, the basis of which remains under discussion.

“There is no guarantee a transaction will result from these discussions,” said a joint release by Boeing and Embraer.

“Boeing and Embraer do not intend to make any additional comments regarding these discussions. Any transaction would be subject to the approval of the Brazilian government and regulators, the two companies’ boards and Embraer’s shareholders.”

Embraer has manufacturing/service operations and assembly facilities at the Orlando-Melbourne International Airport, and the 50,000 square foot Embraer Aero Seating Technologies in Titusville.

The company employs more than 800 people in Brevard County, including about 600 in Melbourne.

In 2008 Embraer made the decision to build a presence in Brevard County with their Executive Jets Customer Center at the Orlando Melbourne International Airport.

Here’s a timeline of Embraer’s development in Brevard County:

• 2011 – Opening of Embraer’s Executive Jets Customer Center, Orlando-Melbourne International Airport
• 2014 – Opening of Embraer’s Engineering and Technology Center, Orlando-Melbourne International Airport
• 2016 – Opening of Embraer’s Legacy 450/500 Assembly Facility, Orlando-Melbourne International Airport
• 2016 – Opening of Embraer Aero Seating Technologies, Spaceport Commerce Park – Titusville

According to Forbes.com, the Boeing-Embraer courtship has seemed inevitable since mid-October, when Airbus, Boeing’s close and fierce rival in the $250 billion-a-year market for big commercial jets, said it was buying a majority stake in the C Series mid-size jet program from Canada’s financially challenged Bombardier.

Bombardier is Embraer’s direct rival in the shallow end of the airliner-making pool.
