BREVARD COUNTY • INDIALANTIC, FLORIDA – Candlelighters of Brevard announced the organization’s Sweet 16 Celebration of its Have-A-Heart Valentine’s Extravaganza. This popular, fun-filled gala will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Hilton Melbourne Rialto Place.

Candlelighters of Brevard is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting children with cancer and their families by offering emotional support and financial assistance.

“The highlight of the event each year is the thrilling Car Give-Away,” said Natasha Duran, Executive Director of Candlelighters of Brevard.

“We are delighted to share that the Nelson family of Brevard County Hyundai Dealers has once again donated a brand-new car to benefit this electrifying event.”

“Last year, our 400 guests enjoyed fire-infused bottles, a scotch and bourbon bar, live production entertainment, dance party and so much more,” said Duran.

“This year’s event promises the same sparkle and spectacular fun – with the addition of a special live band performance. Bigger than this event is your support for our families battling pediatric cancer. With your event sponsorship, Candlelighters is able to provide critical financial and emotional support to over 73 active families in Brevard and Indian River Counties.”

Candlelighters is also seeking event sponsors. From economic assistance to emotional encouragement, join Candlelighters of Brevard in helping families survive the extreme physical, psychological and practical hardships of this pediatric cancer.

“At this event we want to remember our children in their battle against childhood cancer – but also recognize our generous sponsors, volunteers, board, stakeholders and community for their tireless support of Candlelighters of Brevard over the past 16-year event history,” said Duran.

Candlelighters Provides a Light of Hope

What many people may not understand about childhood cancer is that the devastating reality of the disease goes miles beyond anything physical. In addition to the extreme financial strain of paying for care, Brevard based families must also devote an overwhelming amount of time, travel and money for countless other expenses.

From the shock of the diagnosis to the painful side-effects of treatment, the ongoing heartbreak and emotional impact felt by the entire family is hard to imagine.

While nobody can see the diagnosis coming, we can make sure that Brevard patients and families have the support and resources they need to fight back. From economic assistance to emotional encouragement, join Candlelighters of Brevard in helping families survive the extreme physical, psychological and practical hardships of this disease.

Because there are no pediatric oncologists in Brevard, 100 percent of our families must travel out of the county in order to seek medical care. These families also drive approximately 229,623 miles to their treatment centers. In 2016 these families spent 947 days at clinic visits, 608 days in-patient and over 175 days were spent at the Ronald McDonald House.
